"...[B]oth of these Bills are high and neither are for all the articles you ordered....Negro shoes cannot be bought in this market so that one can make anything on them - perhaps you can make an arrangement with Parsons to sell his shoes on commission..."
Two Greene County, Alabama tax forms, one for the estate of James Free, listing 248 acres of land and 4 slaves between 30 and 40 years of age and 1 slave between 50 and 60 years of age. dated 16 Oct. 1863; the other for the Estate of Samuel A. Nelson, listing 516 acres of land, slaves are checked off for 10 - 15, 30 - 40, and 40 - 50 years of age but no numbers (assume one each?), dated 8 (?) Oct. 1863.
AD, 1p (7.75 x 12.5 in.), Wilcox Co., Alabama, 1 Feb. 1837. With a listing of the slaves of Dr. George Christian on March 1, 1831, 1832, 1833, 1834 and their value to hire. (Interestingly, at least half a dozen have no value, likely very young or very old.) Hole in last page where wax seal broken.
