Adolf Hitler Initialed Teapot, Reportedly Taken from his Home by World War II Officer, with Provenance

Wellner silver plate teapot, 7 x 11 in. Interior rim of lid marked "17Z," with corresponding mark on interior bottom rim of pot. Bottom also marked "WELLNER / 150 cl." over numeral "35" in a circle.  Body marked with Nazi Reichsadler roll-mark flanked by Hitler's initials.

Included in the lot is an original typewritten letter signed by Lieutenant James Clinton Cottingham (1919-1973) of the 163rd Ordnance Battalion, dated June 13, 1945. In this letter to his parents from "Lauf, Germany," Cottingham states that, among other "souvenirs" including a German officer's cap, a bayonet, and a German belt buckle, he is sending home a "...coffee pot from Hitler's home. It even has the German sign on it, plus his initials."    


Piece in good condition overall. Some tarnishing and staining to surface, though with crisp markings. Hinge is in good condition.
