A Scarce Three Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Flower

Uniontown, Pennsylvania, 19th Century

with tooled neck and body and two applied lug handles, the body decorated with a large cobalt flower, accented by a blue stripe at rim, with Roman numeral capacity mark, handles with cobalt dashes as base.

Height 13 1/2 inches.


Chips in both handles, base with several cracks (possibly from shrinkage), two extending about an inch up body of jar. Glaze defects including pocks.
