A Rare Half Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher

James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, Pennsylvania, Second Half 19th Century

a diminutive baluster-form pitcher, with slender neck, tooled rim and shoulder and applied strap handle, the neck with free hand cobalt dashes, body stenciled Jas. Hamilton & Co. Greensboro. PA. with top and bottom cobalt stripe, and middle squiggle, the top and bottom of handle with cobalt at points of attachment.

Height 8 1/2 inches. 


Rim and spout with chips. One chip to exterior of lip extending to top band underneath rim. Crack extending from underside to top section of the pitcher, underneath spout. Kiln pock towards base in cobalt decoration.
