A Mennonite Stencil-Decorated Red and Green Painted Blanket Poplar Chest

Ohio or Western Pennsylvania, Dated 1875

stenciled gilt CM / 1875, with additional stenciling along margins of front board, and lower center of front board. The color palette typical of Ohio Mennonite cabinet makers.

Height 22 1/4 x width 40 x depth 18 1/4 inches.  

Condition:

Six board dovetailed case. Chest retains an original, historic surface.  Paint on top of chest worn, with one large water ring. Scuffs and paint loss commensurate with age and use. Original hinges and hardware, though a recent linked brass chain has been added to interior that can be easily removed.
