A Lowe and Husband Stoneware Jar

Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, 19th Century

a one gallon jar with flattened everted lip and tooled shoulder, the body with three stenciled lines Lowe and Husband. Checkered. . Front and Mt. Pleasant. PA., the lines separated by linear stencil devices.  

Height 10 inches.

 

 

Condition:

Chip to rim, chip at base, two thumb-sized areas lacking glaze in front, several as made, tight network of surface hairlines near base, two gouges/abrasions below "PA." Cobalt in "Lowe" and "Husband" is unevenly applied. Browning in some areas.
