A Finely Decorated Westerwald Stoneware Pitcher

German, 18th Century

a globular, high necked pitcher with applied loop handle, exceptionally well turned and with vibrant cobalt, the front decorated with two incised, graceful long-necked waterbirds, both with well-defined feathers and bodies decorated by circular open medallions, the sides of the vessel decorated with an incised medallion with a rearing horse in the center, bordered by circular medallions.  

Height 14 inches.
