A Fine Five Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Flowers

Attributed to the Black Family Pottery, Somerset, Pennsylvania, Mid 19th Century

of cylindrical form with tooled collar and mid-body, with two applied lug handles, bold cobalt flowers on front and back of jar, cobalt dashes at bases of both handles and capacity mark surrounded by dots inside one of the handles. 

Height 15 1/2 inches.


Brown drips on one side, not visible from either decorated side. One chip to handle.
