A Composite Martially Marked Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver

.44 caliber, 7.5" barrel, S/N 5074 (Ca. 1849).  All visible numbers matching, however the number 5074 on the barrel lug appears to be different. One assumes the barrel is from another Dragoon.  Number on loading lever is not the original and number on wedge matches barrel and loading lever. Frame marked U.S. Grips with visible cartouche. Cylinder retains some scene.  Square-backed brass trigger guard and back strap with one-piece walnut grip showing faint cartouche on left side.  Barrel shows one-line New York Colt address.

Condition:

Fair. Gun retains no original finish. Top of barrel has been draw filed, leaving the markings faint. Gun with minor pitting overall. Cylinder with faint scene and barely visible 5074 serial number. One nipple is a modern replacement. Poor bore with traces of rifling. Frame and recoil shield cleaned with naval jelly Bass trigger guard and backstraps are good with martial inspector's marks. Trigger guard screw is a modern replacement. Serial number on back strap restamped. Barrel does not fit properly to frame. Action is soft. Grips are good with visible cartouche. An entry level first model dragoon.
