An Exposition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, celebrated May 10-19, 1940. The Exposition focused on wisdom, freedom, tolerance, enlightenment, and interracial dialogue. The Detroit celebration has been largely overshadowed by a similar exposition in Chicago during that summer which began on July 4th and has been called the "Negro World's Fair."
