4.5" length, 2" width. Five piece ladder badge over a yellow ribbon. Badge features a border scroll with the markings "CO.D./4/OHIO/VOL.CAV./{Crossed sabers}". This badge honors Company D of the 4th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. Company D was mustered on November 25, 1861 at Camp Dennison, Ohio. From this strategic position, the camp's personnel could protect Cincinnati and the Little Miami railroad from Confederate incursions. The 4th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry fought in some of the Civil War's most famous engagements, including the Battle of Chickamauga and throughout the Atlanta Campaign.
Condition:
Good. Yellow ribbon has some fraying to tips. Ribbon held to bar with coarse hand stitching with upper fray suggesting repair. A brass pin at top shows some tarnish and residue. Some discolorations to rear sides of ladder panels. Front sides of panels show some wear and scratches with mars on the "OHIO" panel and weak saber marks lacking the same fill as the above markings. Display case is excellent with some wear to edges.
