Navajo Late Classic Second Phase Blanket / Rug

woven of hand-spun indigo, deep vegetal green, dark brown, cream, commercial three-ply Saxony cochineal red, and aniline red; traditional 12-spot pattern containing green stripes in rectangular anchor points. "Signature lines" or two, 3 inch indigo lines emerge from sides of blanket, 62.5 x 47.5 in.

Condition:

Signature lines are typically found on earlier Classic Period chief blankets, leading to the conclusion that this blanket was woven by an older weaver (Tyrone Campbell, personal communication November 25, 2006).

Dye test available.
