French Presentation Pipe Tomahawk

pewter head, bands, and mouthpiece; blade heavily decorated with imagery of the moon, stars, sun, and fleur-de-lis; additional inscriptions of Hibou Pleurant/ Loyal en Taut (Crying Owl, Loyal in All) and Un Guerrier Brave 1765 (A Brave Warrior, 1765), overall length 20 in., blade length 6.5 in.

A similarly decorated tomahawk dated 1760, is attributed to the Mohawk and published in Hartzler and Knowles (1995: 128, fig. 128).
