Marked Tiffany & Co. / Paris on neck, and with obscured French maker and standard marks to lower, removable section; ht. 6, wd. 3.5 in.
Robert Todd Lincoln (1843-1926), first born child of President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, had an illustrious political career. A member of the Harvard class of 1865, R.T. Lincoln practiced law in Chicago before serving under President James Garfield and Chester Arthur as Secretary of War (1881-85) and later as Minister to Great Britain (1889-92). Major James Clarence Post (d. 1896) of the United States Army Corps of Engineers served as military attaché for the American Legation in London during Lincoln's term as Minister.
James Clarence Post (1825-1896) was a New Yorker by birth, and a West Pointer who enlisted in 1861 and rose through the ranks in the Corps of Engineers, achieving the rank of Major. He is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
