1st Model Winchester 1876 Rifle with 3-Digit Serial Number

.45-75, 28" octagonal barrel, S/N 476 (mfg. ca1876). Blued finish, smooth straight-gripped walnut stock with crescent buttplate and smooth forend. Two-line italics Winchester barrel address with KING'S-IMPROVEMENT marks and patent dates. No caliber marking on barrel or cartridge lifter, but all early production M1876 Rifles were chambered for .45-75. Elevation adjustable rear sight, dovetailed German silver front sight blade. No rods in butt trap. The letter M is deeply carved upside down into the obverse butt. A solid example of a scarce, first year of production 1876 Rifle.

Good. Retains some traces of blue in protected areas with a moderately oxidized brownish-gray patina. Mechanically functional, fair bore is moderately pitted and heavily oxidized with visible rifling. Wood with moderate wear, showing numerous bumps, dings and mars.
