** 1967 WWI-Series Colt 1911 "Meuse-Argonne Offensive" Commemorative with Case

.45 ACP caliber. 5" barrel length. SN: 3343-MA. Commemorative 1911 pistol in wood display case with markings celebrating the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of 1918. Pistol displays a blued metal finish with smooth walnut grip panels with inset bronze medallions. Scrollwork to left slide depicts "{American 'Doughboys' attacking a German pillbox" with "{Rampant Colt}" logo to rear slide behind cocking serrations. Right slide marked "1917 WORLD WAR I COMMEMORATIVE 1967/COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A." Left grip medallion shows "1917{Star}1918/WORLD WAR" above a banner reading "{Star}MEUSE-ARGONNE{Star}". Right grip panel medallion displays a list of the Allies over a banner reading "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION". Item comes in an olive drab painted wood case with plexiglass panel in front and cardboard back insert. Front side of insert shows "{An American soldier crouched behind barbed wire with a pillbox in the background}" along with the text, "The "Meuse-Argonne" Offensive/..."The climactic action ... which pre-ceded the surrender of the German armies."" Upper right corner is imprinted with the "{AEF Ribbon}". Rear of case shows a map of the battlefield. Comes with one magazine marked "COLT/.45 AUTO." Item is from a matched set including lots 7142, 7143, 7144, and 7145. 

Condition:

Very good. Blued metal finish is perfect except for oxidation forming around bases of front and rear sights. Some scratches beneath lanyard loop where it was secured in box. Grip panels have strong edges and lack handling wear, but right panel has residue from double sided foam tape used to secure it to case. Base of right grip panel shows some mars and chips. Box has some abrasions to lid and left side.
