** 1967 WWI-Series Colt 1911 "Battle of Chateau-Thierry" Commemorative with Case

.45 ACP caliber. 5" barrel length. SN: 3343-CT. Commemorative pistol in wood display case honoring the Battle of Chateau-Thierry. Item shows a blued metal finish overall with checkered wood grips displaying bronze medallions and diamond pattern surrounding screws. Scrollwork to left slide depicts "{American machine gun team overlooking the Chateau Thierry}". Right frame shows a banner reading "1917 WORLD WAR I COMMEMORATIVE 1967/COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A." Left grip medallions consist of a bronze "{Spread Winged Eagle}" surrounded by the words "1917{Star}1918/WORLD WAR" followed by a banner reading "CHATEAU THIERRY". Right grip panel features a medallion with a list of the Allied nations over the text "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION". Item comes in olive drab painted wooden case with cardboard back. Front of case shows "{AEF Ribon}" to upper right corner with an mage of an "{American Machine gun team overlooking Chateau Thierry}" with the text "THE BATTLE OF CHATEAU-THIERRY/Said of American Forces ..../"Their timely intervention in a critical moment-and in a critical spot, Chateau-Thierry, contributed decisively to the stemming of the German tide"." Rear of box has a map of the battlefield with four felt spacers and screw-on wall mounts attached to lid. Item comes with one magazine marked "COLT/.45 AUTO." Item is from a matched set including lots 7142, 7143, 7144, and 7145. 

Condition:

Very good. Blued metal finish is perfect except for oxidation around bases of front and rear sights. Right grip panel and interior face of box show residue from double-sided foam tape used to secure pistol in the case. Cardboard back to box is loose and shows tape residue to sides and back from previous attempts to secure it. Screws for wall mounts are stripped and back panel is discolored.
