** 1967 WWI-Series Colt 1911 "Battle of Belleau Wood" Commemorative with Case

.45 ACP. 5" barrel length. SN: 3343-BW. Cased commemorative 1911 pistol honoring the Battle of Belleau Wood. Blued metal finish with smooth walnut grips. Item displays scrollwork to left slide depicting "Doughboys" advancing under the cover of a Lewis Gun team with "{Rampant Colt}" logo to rear slide. Right slide shows a scrollwork banner with the marking "1917 WORLD WAR I COMMEMORATIVE 1967/COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A." Medallion to left grip panel shows "{Spread Winged Eagle}" surrounded by the words "1917{Star}1918/WORLD WAR". Banner below reads "{Star}BELLEAU WOOD{Star}". Right medallion displays a list of the victorious Allies over a banner reading "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION". Display case features an olive drab painted wood frame with cardboard insert and metal wall hangars attached to back. Insert to front of case shows charcoal drawing of "{Americans operating a Hotchkiss 1914 machine gun}" with the "{AEF Ribbon}" to upper right corner and the words "THE BATTLE OF BELLEAU WOOD/"...it was, indeed, the one battle that halted the German offensive, began the ebb tide of German fortunes... and saved Paris from occupation..." Back side of case shows a map of the battlefield. Pistol comes with one magazine marked "COLT/45 AUTO". Item is from a matched set including lots 7142, 7143, 7144, and 7145. 

Condition:

Excellent. Blued metal finish is perfect. Grip panels show no handling wear and sharp edges. Rigth grip panel has residue from deteriorated double sided foam tape that has been applied to case interior to hold item in place. Similar residues to interior of case. Lower brass mount has oxidized, leaving some residues to lanyard loop of pistol. Case has mars to front of lid that have penetrated the paint. Rear of box is missing upper left felt panel and shows some discolorations to battlefield map. Some discolorations to right side of box.
