Lot of 2 photographs taken during the National Reunion of the United Confederate Veterans held on June 8-10, 1909, in Memphis, TN. This was the 19th UCV National Reunion and included 18,000 veterans. The group photograph is identified on the mount and includes CSA General George W. Gordon (1836-1911), who died 2 years later. He was the Klan’s first Grand Dragon for Tennessee, and wrote the Klan’s "Precept" (i.e., a book describing its organization, purpose, and principles). The young ladies depicted in the photo were official “Maids of Honor” for the reunion. The man at top left in the photo is Gale P. Kyle, who was later Mayor of Rogersville, TN. The son of CSA Capt. Leonidas N. Kyle (1837-98) of the 29th TN Inf. (CSA) he took an active role in the reunion. Kyle is also the man pictured in the second photograph in this lot, wearing a Confederate long coat, also taken during the reunion.
