18th Century Flintlock Holster Pistol

.58 caliber, 13" octagonal-to-round barrel, slightly swamped at the muzzle, no S/N. Bright finish, brass mountings, walnut stock. 5.125" flat beveled, semi-banana-shaped lock engraved with panoplies of arms and heroic scenes. Original flint lock with removable, unbridled, faceted pan, flat beveled swan-neck cock and a steel with a period refacing, showing decorative engraving on the front of the frizzen. Barrel with Crown/V London proof marks, and an illegible marker's or retailer's name engraved on the top flat. Deeply chiseled gilt brass mounts with classical, heroic and martial themes with a lion's face buttcap and languets extending 2.5" from the grip mount. Thumb plate escutcheon with classically themed bust. Faceted ramrod thimble and entry pipe, horn tipped wood ramrod. Stock with relief carving over most of its surfaces with flowing vines and floral themes and a carvings around the tang forming a decorative apron.

Very good. Metal cleaned, leaving the engraved mark illegible. Metal with a mottled oxidized brown over gray patina. Engraving on lock remains crisp, mounts sharp. Barrel with small welded repair 3.25" from the muzzle. Mechanically functional, oxidized bore is very dirty. Stock very good with the expected bumps and dings, some minor chipping around the grip cap and couple of hairline cracks in the grip, but without the major repairs and restoration normally encountered on mid-18th century pistols.
