Notkin is an American artist born in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1970 studying under Ken Ferguson. In 1973 he received his MFA from the University of California, Davis where he studied under one of America's greatest ceramic sculptors, Robert Arneson. This skull set is a rare and highly sought-after work made at a time when computers were not common and each piece is individually sculpted with a sense of power not seen in the world of ceramic art. The sheer detail of this piece is overwhelming and it has not lost it's power since being made in the early 1980's.
