John James Audubon (American, 1785-1851). A framed hand-colored engraving titled Rock Grous / Tetrao Rupestris, Leach / Male in Winter 1.  Female Summer Plumage 2.  Young in August 3., l.c., credit to Audubon l.l., credit to Havell and dated 1837 l.r., inscribed Plate CCCLXVIII u.r., J Whatman 1837 watermark l.r.; 16.25 x 21.25 in. (plate size), 21.75 x 28 in. (sheet size).


Toning throughout, foxing spots, abrasions and stains to plate. The sheet was not laid down. The sheet wraps around the mount thanks to folded portions along right and left edges. The sheet size of 21.75 x 28 in. does not include the folded portions of the sheet.
