Cowan’s December Fine Jewelry & Timepieces Auction saw spirited bidding throughout the day on all categories. The auction featured jewelry and accessories from important makers such as Faberge, Cartier, H. Stern and Tiffany & Co. along with certified diamonds and gemstones and fine timepieces from makers such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Omega, Piaget, Panerai and Cartier.
The top lot of the day was a Black, Starr & Frost baroque pearl and diamond necklace in 18 karat gold and platinum with earrings that sold for $20,400. The necklace is comprised of a platinum and 18k yellow gold pendant set with a baroque pearl measuring approximately 19mm x 15mm and 7 Old European cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.12 carat total. The pearls were unable to be tested prior to the auction, but because of the reputation of Black, Starr & Frost at the time the piece was made, bidders were clearly comfortable assuming it was natural.
