Cowan's is delighted to offer over 250 lots of American historical artifacts, photographs, manuscripts, artwork, and other ephemera, including a robust section of African Americana, in this timed online auction. Early photography collectors will be delighted to find plenty of property from the extraordinary collections of Eugene R. Groves and Marvin Lieber featured in this sale as well as many other exceptional photographic examples from private collections, including a selection of Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition stereoviews (Lot 148), a pair of William Henry Jackson Large Format and Cabinet Photographs of Colorado (Lot 244), and much more! This sale also features an array of material from the esteemed Americana collection of N. Flayderman & Co., including early broadsides and folk art carved pipes. Civil War manuscript enthusiasts should be sure to check out the remarkable archive of Col. Everett Peabody, Missouri 25th Infantry, KIA Shiloh (Lot 69). Colonel Peabody's heroics are said to have saved Union forces from a disastrous defeat, and the archive includes post-war accounts that corroborate his gallantry. Unique to this sale is a lot of four autograph quilts, containing the signatures of such twentieth century personalities as Bob Hope, Margaret Mead, Colin Powell, Dick Cheney, George Bush, and many others!

Special Collections items are available for absentee bidding only. You can browse the catalog and place bids at any time.

Absentee Bidding
This platform operates using the "proxibid" method - you may place a high bid and the system will bid on your behalf up to that limit.

5-Minute Closing Rule
Starting at 12:00 PM (Noon) on the Final Date, all lots will close starting with lot #1. There will be a 1 minute period between each item until all items close.

Extended Bidding
Any bids placed within 5 minutes of the closing time will extend bidding by another 15 minutes. This rule will apply continuously until no bids are placed within the 5 minute period.

Email Notification
You will receive an email notification:
-each time you place a bid
-when you are outbid on any lot
-at the close of the auction if you are the high bidder

End of the Auction
