Cowan’s is pleased to present over 300 lots of books and American History manuscripts, photographs, and other ephemera. Bibliophiles will be happy to know that the sale features many interesting objects including a scarce first complete American edition of Flavius Josephus with colonial provenance (Lot 188), first editions by Davy Crockett (Lots 203 and 204), and a large selection of fine bindings. Other interesting works include the bound manuscripts of Spanish Royal Notary Diego Valero de Molina dated 1684-1710 (Lot 115), the first English language edition of The Gallery of Heroick Women with beautiful full-page woodcuts (Lot 210), and signed by biographies by President Barack Obama (Lots 163 and 164). Several lots documenting the African American experience also enhance this sale including a ca 1857 Boston Anti-Slavery Bazaar Broadside (Lot 84), an assortment of real photo postcards from the early 20th century showing a southern barbecue and a cowboy (Lot 88), and a selection of Black Panther Party greeting cards (Lot 262). A highlight of the sale are four lots which encompass the archive of photo-journalist Frank Larence “Larry” Stevens (1921-2009). Known professionally as Larry Stevens, he was an accomplished photographer whose passion for photography would lead him from remote military outposts, to the Hollywood Hills, to America’s most hallowed corridors of power, and beyond. Absentee Bidding
This platform operates using the "proxibid" method - you may place a high bid and the system will bid on your behalf up to that limit.

5-Minute Closing Rule
Starting at 12:00 PM (Noon) on the Final Date, all lots will close starting with lot #1. There will be a 1 minute period between each item until all items close.

Extended Bidding
Any bids placed within 5 minutes of the closing time will extend bidding by another 15 minutes. This rule will apply continuously until no bids are placed within the 5 minute period.

Email Notification
You will receive an email notification:
-each time you place a bid
-when you are outbid on any lot
-at the close of the auction if you are the high bidder

End of the Auction
