Cowan's is pleased to present over 200 lots comprised of 19th and early 20th century photographica, a number of which come directly from the lifetime collections of Eugene R. Groves, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Marvin Lieber, Atlanta, Georgia. Daguerreotype enthusiasts will be happy to know that the sale features more than 100 lots containing daguerreotypes, many fresh to the market, ranging from striking studio portraiture to occupational and outdoor views. The work of Northern and Southern photographers, such as Mathew Brady, John Plumbe, and Edward Jacobs of New Orleans is included alongside both beautiful and unique portraits produced by unknown daguerreotypists of the mid-19th century. A number of Union cases with figural, floral, or geometric designs, many classified by Paul Berg as "Very Very Rare" are also offered here. Other highlights include an exceptional group of tintypes of American Indian subjects and a series of photographs taken by Julia Tuell documenting Sioux and Cheyenne life. Original negatives from the Beatles' first American concert, February 11, 1964, are also an exciting feature of the auction!

Special Collections items are available for absentee bidding only. You can browse the catalog and place bids at any time.

Absentee Bidding
This platform operates using the "proxibid" method - you may place a high bid and the system will bid on your behalf up to that limit.

5-Minute Closing Rule
Starting at 12:00 PM (Noon) on the Final Date, all lots will close starting with lot #1. There will be a 1 minute period between each item until all items close.

Extended Bidding
Any bids placed within 5 minutes of the closing time will extend bidding by another 15 minutes. This rule will apply continuously until no bids are placed within the 5 minute period.

Email Notification
You will receive an email notification:
-each time you place a bid
-when you are outbid on any lot
-at the close of the auction if you are the high bidder

End of the Auction
