Figuratively Speaking is the second in the series of thematically curated auctions from the minds of the Hindman Fine Art team that brought you last February’s Somewhere Out There. Comprised of 95 lots of paintings, works on paper, sculptures, prints and photographs and anchored by Surrealism and Magical Realism, this installment again embraces the weird and wonderful with a more specific focus on the figure, broadly exploring the breadth of possibilities of what Figuration is and can be. Highlights include captivating takes on the human form by Gertrude Abercrombie, Jonathan Borofsky, John Buck, Ed Paschke, John Pratt, Ernest Trova and John Wilde. Also of excitement in the sale is Property from the Collection of Carol Williams that features important works by painter, documentary photographer, educator, writer, and critic Florence Arquin and her acclaimed artist friends Wolfgang Paalen, Alice Rahon, Diego Rivera, Carlos Merida, Kathleen Blacksheer and Ethel Spears many with personalized inscriptions to Florence.
