also known as the Fairbairn with 7.8” double-edged steel blade with central ridge, oval steel quillon/guard stamped England, both with 90% original bluing, single-piece cast brass ribbed grip in copper finish with ball form capstan rivet, total length 11.6”. Includes original sewn leather sheath with slotted belt loop and tapered steel tip, total length 13.25”. (EST $200-$300)

Condition: Very slight nicks on grip, sheath with surface wear and staining.

TWO WESTERN WWI SURVIVAL BOWIE KNIVES,

both with unmarked bright finished 9.25” and 9” single-edged clipped-end blades with .65” choil, single-piece brass S-form quillon/guard stamped Western/Boulder, Colo., U.S.A. on left side and Bowie on right, each with 2-piece pistol grip hardwood grips, attached with 3 brass rivets, 14.5” and 14.25”. includes two Kinfolks Inc./U.S.A. marked examples (see Cole 2002, p 90), both type No. 1, with 6” single-edged bright finished steel blades with clipped ends and ovate 2.25” fuller on each face and .5” choil, marked as above on left ricasso, oval steel quillon/guard and pommel with capstan rivets, stacked leather washer grips, total lengths 10.25”, each includes original sewn and riveted leather sheath, stamped Kinfolks and 2nd with tooled with the name of the ship on which the owner served U.S.S. Cannon/de99 with belt loop, total length 11”, PLUS an example with 6.25” single-edged steel blade with 2” false-edge and 2.25” ovate fuller on each face with .5” choil, stamped on left ricasso Cattaraugus/2250 known as the Cattaraugus Commando Knife, (see Cole, 2002 p 89)with oval steel quillon/guard and replaced brass pommel with modified stacked leather washer grip, total length 11.2”. This knife has had the leather grip filed/cut with finger notching on underside and the steel pommel replaces with onion dome brass pommel, AND the finial is a bayonet, U.S. M7/Milpar with Parkerized 6.6” single-edged steel blade with 3.5” false-edge, Parkerized steel quillon/bayonet barrel mount and pommel with spring loaded bayonet slot, 2 piece checked black plastic grip, attached with 2 slotted bolts with nuts, total length 11.9”. Condition: 1st with slight sharpening wear, leather supple; 2nd with considerable wear from sharpening and loss of 2 leather washers from grip, G; 3rd as above, G; 4th crack .2” long at tip, lacks sheath.

LOT OF WWI BAYONETS,

three World War I German bayonets complete with scabbards. One Model 1907 British bayonet with scabbard. Plus an empty leather scabbard. One of the German bayonets has an interesting bolo look at the end of the blade. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: Two of the German bayonets are in excellent condition. The British bayonet is good condition with some heavy pitting. One of the German bayonet's blades is in good condition, but the hilt and scabbard are heavily pitted. The green leather scabbard is in good condition.

all 19th century, includes an ornamental short sword with 13.2” double-edged steel blade with engraved vining floral designs on each face of blade and shield crest on one face, near ricasso, single-piece cast iron hilt with scrolled quillon/guard with lion mask terminals, pommel with Bacchanal scene with foliage surround and capstan rivet and grip with all over scroll work with oval vignette at center of each face with human mask, total length 19”, PLUS an American short sword with 13.75” double-edged steel blade with central rib, all over acid etched engraving with patriotic motifs and ricasso marked Pettybone, cast brass quillon/guard in cross form with scrolled design, cast brass pommel with branching flowers and leaves, cast spiral white metal grip, total length 20.4”, AND a mid-19th century German hunting short sword with 12.8” single-edged steel blade with very fine, but worn hunting scenes engraved on each face, extending along 4/5 of length, marked on left ricasso with worn squirrel holding nut and worn lettering including Solingen 2-piece cast aluminum quillon/guard with shell-form languet in front, quillon in form of stag's legs with hoof terminals, unmarked slightly domed silver pommel with rayed design and capstan rivet with hole for ring and matching silver collar, single-piece stag grip with attached bronze escutcheon of stag head surrounding swastika with rayed back ground, total length 18.5”. Condition: 1st all over brown patina and drill hole in center of blade, likely added for mounting; 2nd lacks braided wire wrap from grip and solder on capstan rivet; 3rd the aluminum mounts and bronze on grip likely added at the same time, sometime in the 1930's, slight pitting on blade and half of quillon broken off.

CAREER PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVE FROM THE ESTATE OF GENERAL MATTHEW RIDGWAY, 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION,

10 bound volumes of photographs with documents, all in matching 3-hole punch black heavy card stock binders with black cloth covers and manuscript titles in white ink.

Volume I entitled 1898-January 1950. This volume covers his life from West Point to the beginning of the Korean War, includes 2 photos from the Academy, 6 more photos from prior to Dec. 7th, 1941, ca 30 from then unit his return to the U.S. Many of the WWII photos have other military leaders including several with Montgomery, Eisenhower, Gen James Galvin 18th Airborne, Gen Maxwell Taylor, 101 Airborne, Russian Gen. Firsovich, many from Sicily, France and Germany, a few from Pacific, and 15 post war images. All photographs in all 10 albums are 8" x 10" and layer on canvas with official typed titles on reverse.

Volume II titled December 1950-March 1951, this album has 69 photographs, nearly all from Korea, including one with Ridgway and MacArthur in jeep. Volume III entitled April-July 1951 has 75 images, some taken in Japan with his lovely young wife, most again are from Korea, where he was by then the Supreme NATO Commander-in-Chief, having replaced Gen. Douglass MacArthur after Truman relieved him of command. Volume IV entitled July 1951-May 1952 has 87 images, again most from either Korea or Japan. This was the end of his service in Korea.

Volume V entitled May-October 1952 has 94 images which cover his brief return to the U.S. before being appointed Commander-in-Chief of all NATO forces in Europe. Includes several photographs of Ridgway and Truman, many the European military leaders including Montgomery and others. Volume VI entitled November 1952-July 1953, includes 91 images, all from his service as NATO commander. Volume VII entitled July-December 1953 includes 82 images again from NATO, including an interesting group with Ridgway greeting a group of Egyptian officers including Abdel Nasser.

Volume VIII entitled January-May 1954 includes 59 images includes his last days as NATO commander and the beginning of his tenure as Army Chief of Staff. Volume IX entitled June-September 1954 includes 84 images as Army Chief of Staff, with many very interesting images of Ridgway meeting military leaders from Southeast Asia and Central America. Volume X and the last volume in this archive is entitled September 1954-March 1955 has 98 images, all as Army Chief of Staff with a large number of images from a reception of all the different Military Attachιs of the world held by the U.S. Army in Washington.

Lot includes copy of the original bill of sale from the Estate Auction of Gen. Ridgway's Estate, held in 1997 in Pittsburgh, Pa. (EST $1500-$2500)

Condition: Most EXC. Some of the labels on reverse are faded or loose, one image torn.

HIGGINS MODEL BOAT TROPHY,

copper figure of a boat, front and back of trophy with various military vessels. Plaque on left side of trophy reads, Presented by Andrew Jackson Higgins, designer of the L.C.V.P. in co-operation with the United States Treasury's War Finance Program to commemorate the Newspaper Boys War Saving Stamp sales campaign August through October 1945, which sponsored a fleet of landing craft for the invasion of Japan. 10.5" length, 6.5" height. (EST $200-$400)

Condition: Some scratches, especially in the base region.

ENGRAVED FLATTENED COW HORN POWDER FLASK FOR MUSKET DATED 1604,

obverse with engraved image hunting scene complete with village scene and forked-tongued monster. Verso with concentric circles and dated 1604. Original iron spout and buttcap with all parts present and functional. Complete with woven hanging cord. (EST $500-$700)

Condition: Entire horn's body has been cleaned as per European taste. Iron mounts with nice patination and void of any rust.

EASTERN EUROPEAN STAG FLASK,

Carpathian Basin, ca late 17th century/early 18th century. Antler body including one fork. Repeating folk art scrolling, including large circle with sextagonal geometrical ornament containing floral motif. All three edges of the flask are lined with similar intricate engraving. Flask has overall fine patination. Two iron suspension rings. 12.75" long x 9" across the bases. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: Lacking original iron spout. Both basal caps are present. Two of the edges have cracks due to nail in the horn.

BRITISH MUSICIAN'S TUNIC OF ROYAL WELSH FUSILIERS,

ca 1905-1920's. Heavy red wool tunic having six general service brass buttons with Royal Coat of Arms and navy blue facings for a royal regiment. Cuffs, collar and boards edged with a cord of alternating red and white piping indicating a musician. Tall navy blue wool collar fixed with the grenade badge of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, previously the 23rd Foot. Two navy blue wool shoulder boards with brass general service buttons and brass grenades. Brass RWF shoulder title present on right board but missing on the left. Rear tail of jacket having six brass buttons with Royal Coat of Arms. Pleated tail with white piping. Interior of jacket with white satin lining and evident sweat stains. Tailor's label reads Kashket's Products Made in England. (EST $200-$400)

Condition: Exterior of jacket's lining is in fair condition with some tears. Excellent with no mothing.

steel helmet with ordinance markings and floral motifs. Brass crest with figure of a man's face. Vestige of a chinstrap remaining secured with two rosettes on each side. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: Pitting is beginning to form on helmet. Lacking chinstrap and horsehair and plume socket. Right side of helmet with significant 3" dent.

LOT OF SIX PIECES OF ARMOR,

sixteenth century-style right-handed gauntlet with hand hammered marks underneath, right sided pauldron, and thigh plate (cuisse). Large pauldron and thigh guard with engraved scale motifs forming an imbricated pattern. Nineteenth century style backplate, gorget neck collar (Halsberge), and shoulder cop. (See Demmin, 1877: 226, 231, & 314). (EST $400-$600)

Condition: The pauldron, thigh guard and shoulder cop with light scattered rust scale build-up. Gauntlet lacking finger guards.

FRENCH MID-18TH CENTURY DRAGOON LEATHER HELMET,

compressed black leather helmet with crown, visor and rear brim. Brass strap with layered geometric pattern runs down the front middle of the helmet. Brass strap around front visor, and hatband secured by two brass rivets. Leather chinstrap intact but severely worn. Brown leather interior with inked 22 1/2 in two places. (EST $400-$600)

Condition: Chinstrap is worn, other sections of helmet are very good.

LATE 19TH CENTURY CUIRASSIER SOLDIER'S DRESS SUIT OF ARMOR FOR PARADE,

brass cuirass with brass chains and brass straps and rivets. Center of chest with steel planchet and brass eagle with arrows in both talons and surrounded by laurel wreath. Leather belt with brass buckle. Brass helmet with ordinance designations as well as thistles. Brass crest with brass socket holding a red plume. Black horsehair projecting from the crest. Front of comb with figure of a man's face. Left side of helmet with brass chin scales attached with lion's rosette. 35" height. Mounted to a wood base. (EST $1000-$2000)

Condition: Brass cuirass front and steel back are virtually void of dents. Steel backside with pitting and light rust scale buildup. Right side of chin scales missing lion's rosette and brass chin scales.

LATE 19TH CENTURY CUIRASSIER TROOPER'S DRESS SUIT OF ARMOR FOR PARADE,

cuirass with brass chain work, rivets and steel straps complete with leather waist belt. Helmet with ordinance planchet as well as brass crest and socket holder for red plumes. Black horsehair attached to crest which has a pronounced carving of a man's head. Brass chin scales with concentric circled rosettes. Brass rimmed steel visor. 35" overall height. Mounted to a wood base. (EST $1000-$2000)

Condition: Cuirass with light, even overall pitting. Leather strap on left side of cuirass is missing. Helmet also with expected light pitting.

MODEL 1897 INFANTRY PICKELHAUBE,

brass planchet with eagle stamped FR. Brass round spiked base complete with dome. Brass chin scales secured by two cockades. (EST $600-$800)

Condition: Planchet with left bottom talon with orb severed (but available). Right talon with staff that has been severed. Brass base with two rivets missing. Top and rear left side of helmet with significant abrasion.

FINE GERMAN STEEL, GOLD & SILVER FOLDING FORK AND SPOON,

tablespoon-sized with silver bowl marked with clover with 3 initials IGW typical of German early to mid-18th century marks. The handles of each are engraved steel with gold overlay king's head on spoon handle and queen's head on fork handle with both gold and silver overlay scroll work and bird. Spoon has a sliding silver sleeve to lock bowl in place, 7.5" open x 4.25" closed; fork is 8" open x 4.25" closed. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: Expected wear to both gold and silver overlay, else fine.

all have inscriptions in German. Oldest item is oval shaped 4" x 3" inscribed Der Schutzen Campagne Zu Osterberg zu Ehren dated 1752. Second oldest is star shaped 4.5" x 3" with inscription W. Stengel and dated 1839. Third oldest is star shaped 3.5" with 13 points (14th is missing) and dated 1871. Fourth oldest is octagonal 1.5" and inscribed Leht Konig 1875 (EST $200-$400)

Grip is a single-piece mountain goat horn, all with fine old patina, total length open 10”, closed 7.4”, AND 2nd example with 3” single-edged forged steel blade set in turned and engraved single-piece horn grip with brass collar which tapers from round-to-octagonal-to-round with engraved designs. 33" single-edge blade, with fine Damascus pattern on steel. Gilt etchings of crown and emblems. The cross guard is in the form of a dragon, the pommel is in the form of a crown. Handle rich with gold gilt. Leather scabbard with brass fittings. Sword with maker's mark on the ricasso. Left side marked in a banner Eisenhauer. Right side marked D.F. Bock Hoflieperant, Berlin. Condition: The sword is in mint condition. The scabbard shows some age with cracks, scuffs and some dents on the brass fittings. Missing original pommel.

with 21” single-edged steel blade with 1” false-edge and full length fuller, ricasso with arabesque gilt engraving, each face of blade with etched martial and royal motifs, such as drums, crowns and crossed flags and arms, including one flag which resembles French royal, unmarked chased silver quillon/guard/languets with chased floral designs, full silver back/belly strap engraved, pierced and chased with floral motifs with capstan rivet, 2-piece engraved mother of pearl grip attached with 3 steel rivets and decorated with three applied chased silver ovals with Roman arms on each face, chased silver collar with floral motifs, fine unpolished patina, total length 26.5”. Condition: Lacks scabbard, minor dents on silver mounts, one silver oval from grip missing and silver chain from quillon to end of belly strap missing, chip on left MOP grip.

GERMAN SWORD,

32" blade, marked at the ricasso Clauberg Solingen. Seal on the reverse. This is a contract of a non-regulation officer's Civil War sword. Shagreen wrapped handle with brass wire, German silver guard and hilt. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: The blade retains most of the original nickel plating. The etchings are crisp. Handle is in excellent condition.

FRENCH FOLDING SHORT-SWORD,

void of markings, ivory handle. 10" blade, 20" overall length. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: All metal surfaces have a very light salt and pepper pitting scattered throughout the metal. The ivory handles are missing a small piece on both sides of the handles.

17TH CENTURY SOUTHERN GERMANIC WHEELOCK RIFLE,

ca 1625-1650. .62 caliber, 30" octagonal swamped barrel has seven wide lands and seven narrow grooves. The barrel is sighted with a brass front sight and an iron rear sight with an ornate finial. The gun is unsigned except for a mark resembling an F on the barrel. The stock is fruitwood with relief-carving and ivory inlays depicting a stag amongst scrolls and stars (right side). Left cheek piece depicts a hound and hunter pursuing two rabbits surrounded by scrolls and stars. Forward of this is a relief carving of deer and hounds. In the panel forward of this is a relief carving of a wolf among shrubs and a flowering tree all on a punched background. These carvings are of the period, and similar to work done by the master of the animal head scroll at that time. The rectangular panel on the cheek piece and the end cap are engraved with floral and scroll motifs. The lock is flat with an exterior pierced wheel cover, a button release pan cover and a sculpted cock, all with native flowers and geometric engravings. A period iron trigger guard and set trigger. Overall length 40.6". (EST $2000-$3000)

Condition: All metal surfaces have a general light covering of surface rust. Loss of original wood on ramrod channel. Forestock has an old repair midway employing two nails. The front stag horn ramrod pipe and ramrod is missing, as well as the patch box cover. Losses to the buttplate and the iron ball which is missing (used to rest the rifle while loading). A minor loss on the cheek piece inlay. Nominal chip at the tang. This gun has excellent potential and could restore well.

GERMAN JAEGER FLINTLOCK MUSKET,

ca 1740-1750. .60 caliber, 26" tapered octagonal barrel. Unsigned flintlock rifle. The walnut stock of this Jaeger rifle is of American Black walnut, which doesn't prove that the piece was stocked or made in America. This suggests that it might have been made in the U.S. Overall, the piece is a strongly Germanic-style rifle with deep carvings around the tang and through the wrist and on the buttstock. Brass buttplate, trigger guard, nosecap, ramrod thimbles, and brass nose cap. Period markings in India ink on the inside of sliding patchbox cover G. Siegert Easton, PA. Mar. 13th, 1864. (EST $3000-$5000)

Condition: Original flint. The barrel has a nice smooth brown look with some pitting around the touch hole and on the pan of the lock. The rest of the lock has a nice blackened look. The wood is excellent with fine carvings and a few dings and mars. The brass has a nice tarnished look. Ramrod is a replacement.

.45 caliber, 32" octagonal tapered barrel, express leaf sight. Walnut checkered stock with tipped horn. (EST $800-$1200)

Condition: Barrel is a replacement and is smooth with a nice plum look. The lock is marked "Handen" and is in excellent condition. The stock is original and in excellent condition.

H. NOCK ENGLISH FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARREL FOWLER,

12 gauge, three part barrel with gold H. Nock seal on the top of breech and gold band at breech. Walnut stock. Lock is marked Allen. (EST $1500-$2500)

Condition: Brown finish on barrel has a nice aged look. The lock has a deep, dark grey look, but very sharp overall. The stock is excellent with a few minor dings and scratches.

ENGLISH FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARREL FOWLER WITH EXTRA GETZ BARREL,

lock marked LePage. Top of barrel marked Henry Probin, Snow Hill, with patent breech. Walnut stock. The tang area and lock are engraved. (EST $2000-$3000)

Condition: The barrel retains ca 98% Damascus re-browned finish. The lockplate marked LePage is made in the typical English style which is much later in its production. The quality is that of English tradition. Walnut stock and checkering are in excellent condition. Extra barrel made by Getz.

FRENCH OFFICER'S MILITARY MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK PISTOL,

.60 caliber, 5" barrel, walnut stock brass furniture. French markings on the lock plate with C.1818 on the left side of barrel. (EST $1500-$2500)

Condition: Metal is grey with some salt and pepper pitting. Brass has tarnished. The stock has dings and mars.

ENGLISH FLINTLOCK DUELING PISTOL BY SINKINSON,

.62 caliber smoothbore, 9.25" octagonal barrel with Damascus coloration. Barrel has a false breech and hook, secured by flat pins. The sight is a silver rectangular post set by inlaid spider. Barrel has London view and proof marks at the breech. The breech and tang are engraved with a line of pills and foliage. The stock is a light walnut with raised carvings around the lock. The butt is faceted creating a very clean look. The lock is beveled and lined with a stepped tail, floral patterned engraving and script signature Sinkinson. The blued trigger guard is engraved with a rose and leaves terminating with a pineapple finial. The ramrod is original and horn tipped and still retaining its iron worm. Overall length 14.75". (EST $3000-$5000)

Condition: Repair done by an expert above the lockplate. An old crack at the muzzle. The pistol retains most of its original blue finish on the lockplates, trigger guard and ramrod pipes.

.60 caliber, 7.5" round barrel. Lock marked Blair. Walnut stock with brass furniture. (EST $500-$1000)

Condition: Barrel and lock are lightly pitted with a grey look. Walnut stock has a dried look with some scratches, dings and mars.

BELGIAN BOXLOCK FLINTLOCK PISTOL,

.46 caliber, 7" barrel with ELG markings on the left flat of barrel and proofs under barrel at the frame. Bag shaped walnut grip. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: Barrel retains ca 60% blue finish, but thinning and turning brown. Frame is grey, but sharp. The grips are in excellent condition.

ENGLISH FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS PISTOL,

ca 1805-1810. .65 caliber, 7.25" part round barrel with flat sides at the breech. Top of barrel with engraving of a stand of arms secured by ribbon and bow surrounded by scrolls. At the baluster the barrel becomes round and terminates with another baluster forming the reinforced cannon barrel. The full stock is figured and striped walnut with minor carving. The brass trigger guard is line engraved with a rose and leaves. The finial is of the acorn-type - which implies an earlier period. The lock is flat and beveled with a stepped tail, light engraving and line engraved. The swan neck cock is line-engraved with a sprig of leaves. The pan is bridled, the tumbler is not. The tang is engraved with a rose and floral borders. Overall length 12.5". (EST $1500-$2500)

Condition: The Birmingham proofmarks under the barrel. Brass cannon barrel has been cleaned to bright at one time, but has now began to tarnish. The lock has a nice grey-to-brown look, with no pitting. The wood is chipped above the tail of the lock. The ramrod is a later replacement. Excellent overall condition.

BRITISH MILITARY FLINTLOCK PISTOL,

ca. 1750-1780 .69 caliber, 9" barrel, wood stock with brass furniture. English proofmarks on the barrel. (EST $300-$500)

Condition: Beveled lock plate with replacement hammer. Barrel has a deep brown with lots of pitting. Stock is broken into two pieces in the grip area. Gun could be restored.

Lot # 1181

PAIR OF BOXLOCK .57 CALIBER FLINTLOCK PISTOLS,

by Edward Bate, London ca 1775. .57 caliber, 7" barrel. The three-stage turn-off barrels are London viewed and proofed with foreign marks on the breech. The action is engraved with banners, floral leaves and scrolls following onto the breeches. The trigger guard is engraved with a rose which serves as a safety at half-cock. The stock is flat with rounded edges and of English walnut. The stock is engraved with a border and foliage. Overall length 12."

Edward Bate worked in London from 1770-1820. (EST $1800-$2200)

Condition: One cock and the top plate of the action has been replaced and both are unengraved. Each pistol has heavy pitting on one side. The pistols may have laid on a damp surface for a period of time, being that one side of each of the pistols has much more noticeable wear than the other side. Both are in fair condition and mechanically functional. Good examples of their type.

Lot # 1182

PAIR OF ENGLISH C.B. FISHER 39 GREEK STREET BOXLOCK PISTOLS,

ca 1800-1810. .50 caliber, 2.75" barrels with a band of foliage engraved at the end of the muzzle. Rifled barrel with seven land and grooves. Rounded boxlock actions complete with a depiction of a trophy stand of a shield, flags and arms on each side. Locks are further engraved with foliate patterns around the lock and folded trigger. The stock is rounded and finely checkered with a floral engraved silver buttcaps and silver initialed elongated octagonal escutcheons with initials ? CCF. Underside of barrel with Birmingham mark plus a 3 rendered over a lion. Engraved thumbpiece safety-bolt securing the steel. Overall length 6.25."

Cornelius Bird Fisher worked at 1798 Litchfield Street, Soho, 1798-1817. (EST $2000-$3000)

Condition: Both pistols are in fine condition. The engraving is very crisp and the finish on the barrels have a nice grey-to-brown look. Some slight rubbing on the checkered butt. Overall a very sharp and crisp pair.
