Christian Berard was an enormously influential artist in French and American theater during the 1930s and 40s, working in a variety of mediums and techniques. He worked as a fashion designer for Chanel, Ricci and Schiaparelli, and was known for his openly homosexual relationship with Boris Kochno (1904-1990), the Director of Ballett Russes. Berard's portraits from this era have been described as "dream like", and this is a rare full length example. (EST $8000-$12000)

Condition: Only a few tiny flakes to paint in lower left. The painting is in completely untouched condition. Some areas fluoresce under black light but this is due to a second finish applied by the artist.
