Auction: 2006, Firearms and Early Militaria Auction, Dec 7

Fine brass guard with three intertwined branches having high relief foliated design, all with minute traces of fire gilt in protected areas. Grip is silver with horizontal panels of laurel leaves. High quality brass scabbard fittings engraved with foliated motif on one side only. Between the two scabbard bands is a six-line inscription that reads, Presented to Lieut. Geo. Krank by the members of Company K., 7th N.Y. Artillery as a token of their regard for him as an Officer.
Krank enlisted in Company K, 7th NYHA in August 1862 and was promoted 1st lieutenant in Company E in January 1864. He was wounded at Spotsylvania C.H. on May 19, 1864 and mustered out with the regiment in August 1865.
The 7th NY was one of the garrison regiments withdrawn from the Washington Defenses and assigned to the 2nd Corps, Army of the Potomac as infantry reinforcements for Grant's summer campaign. As a body of troops, the "heavies" suffered terrible casualties, sacrificed to the all out war of attrition designed intentionally to wear down Lee. Seeing active campaigning only in the last ten months of the war, many of the 32 heavy artillery regiments are near the top of Fox's Fighting 300.

HANCOCK / ENGLISH CAMPAIGN TEXTILE
Sale Price Including Buyer's Premium: $117.50
Auction: 3/3/2011 - ONLINE American History Timed Auction
An 18.5" x 21" printed cotton campaign textile, featuring jugate portraits of Winfield Scott Hancock/Democratic Candidate For President and William H. English/Democratic Candidate For Vice President.
This campaign piece dates from the election of 1880, which pitted two highly respected former Union generals against each other, with James A. Garfield emerging victorious and continuing the unbroken chain of Republican presidents since the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860. The Democrats, after winning the popular vote but losing the presidency with Samuel Tilden in 1876, had a sporting chance to break the streak, owing to President Hayes' numerous scandals and Hancock's impeccable reputation, yet came up just short in what remains the closest popular vote margin in American history.
