Lot # 660 - German Hunting Sword Ca 19th Century
Hirshfanger sword with 19.5" straight single-edged blade becoming double-edged at the point. Lower portion of the blade with fired blue finish as well as gilt motifs including floral sprays, trophies and a leaping fox on one side and a boar on the other side. Blade at the hilt on outer side is engraved Martin Semmler Schwertfeger in Cassel. Gilded copper alloy hilt with medallions on both sides featuring a stag and a doe sitting near a dead boar. Heavy straight quillons with finials in the shape of dog's heads. Rough stag horn grip scales with two oval gilt rivet heads having formal leaf patterns. Ferrule has raised decoration consisting of overlapping band of acanthus leaves. Fluted oval pommel cap with knob finial. Neck of cap shows various hunting vignettes around the edge. Plain grip straps. Leather scabbard with brass throat and drag.

Lot # 184 - Three CDVs of Gettysburg Interest: John C. Robinson, David A. Russell, John Sedgwick
Lot of 3: Anonymous CDV of Maj. Gen. John C. Robinson, CMOH, assumed command of 1st Corps on July 1. Brady view of Bvt. Maj. Gen. David A. Russell '41; Col. 7th Mass.; led a brigade in the 6th Corps only lightly engaged at Gettysburg but still brevetted for same.  Later personally led his division in a charge at Rappahannock Station, capturing eight enemy battle flags and artillery. Commanded division during the Overland campaign and sent to the Shenandoah to repel Early; killed at Winchester Sept. 19, 1864 while at the front of his men. A stellar officer awarded five wartime brevets including two as major general. Anonymous view of Maj. Gen. John Sedgwick '33, commanded 6th Corps at Gettysburg and later the 5th and 6th Corps at Rappahannock Bridge where he shattered elements of Confederate division, taking numerous prisoners and trophies. KIA at Spotsylvania May 9, 1864.

Buttplate with panel engraving; on the sideplate with young hunters carry a rabbit.  Deeply carved buttstock with vines and oak leaves.
