Low Number Indian Scout Motorcycle

American, 1920, manufactured by Indian Motorcycle Company, Springfield, Massachusetts. Indian Model R, the first year production of the two cylinder Scout, with 55 horsepower, a 596 cc (37ci) engine, the serial number, 55R72; wheelbase, 54 in., seat height, 32 in.

The Indian Scout was a motorcycle built by the Indian Motorcycle Company from 1920 to 1949. It rivaled the earlier Chief as Indian's most important model. The Scout was immediate hit with dirt track and endurance racers and street riders and became even more popular after the frame was lowered and the engine bumped to 45ci in 1928. Possibly a "ground up" restoration, as condition of bike is outstanding. Tires are replacements. Lot comes with an archive of bike history.
