American, mid-19th century. A printed textile now fashioned as a whole cloth quilt depicting a shield-breasted eagle holding a banner in its beak that reads E PLURIBUS UNUM. Printed cotton back, all hand-sewn; 80" x 82".

Condition: Very crisp, retaining much of the original glaze; very minor staining and wear to backing. Muslin sewn to back for mounting.
