Quarter Plate Tintype of Union Infantry Squad in Camp
6/23/2011 - American History, Including the Civil War
An unidentified outdoor view of a lieutenant and corporal with six privates standing casually before two stacks of .58 cal. Springfield rifles amidst cartridge boxes propped on the ground. The lieutenant carries a cavalry saber while all of the enlisted men wear forage caps and frock coats except for one man in a shell jacket. None of the soldiers show regimental or company insignia and there is nothing to suggest a location except for a few shapeless trees scattered in the background. In regular light the plate is somewhat dark, overexposed due to the intensity of natural sunlight revealed by the shadow of muskets on trousers. An image with superior content.
