My dear Sir

This will be handed to you by an old and warm friend of mine, Mr. R.F. Livingston, who was besides a very active friend of mine in the late Campaign. He is desirous of obtaining a Harbor Master appointment, and I should be much gratified to contribute to his Success.

As you are going to Albany I thought the better way would be to make you acquainted with him and his object, and ask your good offices with the Governor.

Mr. Livingston and I were associated whilst I was a Civil Engineer & anything you can do to aid him will be a personal favor to me.

yours truly,
J.C. Fremont

Condition: Moderate toning and wear. Some separation at the fold lines, reinforced with tape on verso. Text is clearly legible.
