Ninth Plate Oval Daguerreotype of 22nd NYSM Corporal
6/23/2011 - American History, Including the Civil War
Unidentified, plate measures 1.5 x 2 in. The 22nd Regiment NY State Militia was organized in the 1850s and hailed from New York City. The corporal with stylish bushy sideburns wears a gray kepi with red lower band having the numerals 22 in reverse. The collar of the gray uniform jacket is trimmed red with gold braid. The high dome buttons are obscured by gilding. The 22nd NYSM known as the Union Grays were called up for three months service in June 1862 and again for one month’s service in 1863 during Lee’s invasion of Pennsylvania. Housed in a damaged Bouquet of Roses case (Krainik # 682).

The plate shows noticeable polish hairlines or swipes with halo of tarnish around border, overall VG.
