Cleveland, Stephen Grover (1837-1908). Twenty-second and twenty-fourth President of the United States (1885-1889, 1893-1897). DS as President, 1p, Washington, DC. January 25, 1886. The document is an official appointment of Charles Henry Davis to the rank of Commander in the Navy, signed by President Cleveland and Secretary of the Navy William Collins Whitney. Affixed with the seal of the Department of the Navy, which still retains its raised lettering and deep blue coloring. Framed, 21" x 25" overall.
