1849 Ames Rifleman's Knife
2010, Historic Firearms and Early Militaria, April 28 & 29
12" spear point blade, 1.6" wide, 0.25" thick. Marked at ricasso Ames Mfg Co, Cabotville/1849. W.D. and J.W.R. inspectors' initials are stamped on the brass guard. Still retaining the original leather guard at brass guard. Walnut wood handle held by three steel rivets. Black leather scabbard with brass throat and tip.

Condition:  
All markings are mint. Handle has very nice figured wood with an age crack on one side; does not distract from the looks of the handle. Blade is outstanding it has some areas of staining at the tip caused by dried cosmoline. Leather scabbard is outstanding with a beautiful untouched patina. This knife is in the top five known for condition.
