He holds BA and MA degrees in anthropology from the University of Kentucky and a PhD in anthropology from the University of Michigan. |
Paintings, Furniture and Decorative Arts
Diane Wachs
Diane supervises the Furniture, Paintings, and Decorative Arts Department at Cowan's, overseeing six auctions a year. A Kentucky native, Diane served there as a museum director and on boards and panels to further the state's fine and decorative arts. She holds a B.A. from Trinity College in Washington, DC, and a Masters in the History of Decorative Art from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Program in New York, N.Y.

Mimi Morgan
A native of Philadelphia and former marketing administrator with 30 years experience in the antiques trade, Mimi regularly exhibits at shows throughout the Midwest, specializing in early ceramics, glassware and fine art. She commands an encyclopedic knowledge of ceramics and glass and loves the research component of her job. If she doesn't know what it is, she won't give up until she finds out.

Roxanne Argenbright
The daughter of an antiques dealer, Roxanne brings to Cowan's more than 25 years of experience in the antiques trade. Her passion for design and the decorative arts, held from her earliest memory, is evident in the time spent studying and researching a single textile or piece of pewter. She studied in the Interior Design Program at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, and is a member of the Pewter Collectors Club of America and the Ohio Folk Art Association. Roxanne's pleasant attitude and depth of knowledge make her indispensable to the Cowan's team.

Emily Everhart
Emily developed an interest in the decorative arts early on--when she broke her mother's Wedgwood teapot as a child. After a later move to Cincinnati, she acquired a passion for local objects, specifically art pottery and art-carved furniture. She presented a paper on a Mitchell and Rammelsberg bedroom suite as part of an exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and completed an internship in the Decorative Art Department there. She holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati.

Graydon Sikes
Graydon Sikes works with our paintings and prints here at Cowan's. His other cataloguing interests include sculpture, early photography and miscellaneous items in the decorative arts. He is currently completing his MA in Art History at the University of Cincinnati, with a specific focus on Henry Farny and 19th century artists of the American West.

Jack Lewis
Jack Lewis has 36 years experience in the firearms industry. Jack is nationally known for his expertise in the Springfield Arsenal and the Frankford Arsenal. Jack is a Life member of both the National Rifle Association and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He is also a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors.

Paula Richardson Fleming
A former photo archivist for the Smithsonian Institution, Fleming specializes in 19th century photography of Native Americans, stereoscopy (3-D photography), and photographers of Washington, D.C. An internationally recognized authority on American Indians, Fleming is the author of Native American Photography at the Smithsonian: The Shindler Catalogue, 2003, Grand Endeavors of American Indian Photography, 1993 and The North American Indians in Early Photographs, 1986.

Danica graduated from John Carroll University and holds an MA in anthropology from the University of Cincinnati. She oversees Cowan's American Indian division, highlighted by two auctions each year.

Susan is Cowan's Consulting Ethnologist. A writer and teacher with a PhD in American Indian history and anthropology, she spends time each summer with the Oglala on Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota.
